This is a guide will explain what runes are and how to use them.

}}'''Runes''' are items used to apply modifications to equipment. They replace the traditional enchanting present in vanilla, and compared to enchantments, runes can also carry negative effects. They can be both applied and removed from any equipment that contains rune slots. Applying runes to items is referred to as engraving and can be done by simply clicking with the rune on an item that accepts it.


Runes are a replacement to the vanilla enchantment system, they apply special affects to the item they get applied too. They are 5 different rune types, each type can increase the bonus of the effects of the type before it;
Runes can be categorized by enrichment and utility type. Enrichment determines how potent a rune is, therefore affecting its range of modification on the item it gets engraved to. Utility type distinguishes runes based on the type of effects they can have.

Dormant
Rune slots aren't universal, as any slot can only accept a specific type of rune. Runes of the same type carry the same color hue. There are four types in total:
Forged
Resonant
Transcendent


Rune shards aren't craftable but can be dropped by some mobs/bosses and can be purchased at the magic shop at spawn in exchange for XP levels. Rune shards don't provide any bonuses or effects, however

Runes are items used to apply modifications to equipment. They replace the traditional enchanting present in vanilla, and compared to enchantments, runes can also carry negative effects. They can be both applied and removed from any equipment that contains rune slots. Applying runes to items is referred to as engraving and can be done by simply clicking with the rune on an item that accepts it.

Runes can be categorized by enrichment and utility type. Enrichment determines how potent a rune is, therefore affecting its range of modification on the item it gets engraved to. Utility type distinguishes runes based on the type of effects they can have.

Rune types

Rune slots aren't universal, as any slot can only accept a specific type of rune. Runes of the same type carry the same color hue. There are four types in total:

Weapon runes Armor runes Tool runes Generic runes

Runes can also be enriched to enhance their abilities. There are five tiers of enrichment, each with the potential to enhance the effects of the previous one. Rune stats are randomized within tier-specific ranges, meaning that a more enriched rune might still receive a lower random stat value than a good, less enriched rune carries.

Shattered Dormant Forged Resonant Transcendent

Shattered runes do not carry any effect, but they can still be engraved.

Obtaining

The current way to obtain runes is to trade shattered runes for experience at the local Runebearer in Spawn. Once eight rune shards of an identical rune have been gathered, they can be enriched into a dormant rune.

Enrichment

Enriching runes requires eight of any identical rune and a metal ingot dense enough to bear the rune's power. The more enriched a rune becomes, the heavier the metal it requires.

Shattered → Dormant

  • Crafting: Place 8 Shattered Runes of the same type around 1 Silver Ingot.
  • Example:

  • Crafting: Place 8 Dormant Runes of the same type around 1 Sylvanthrite Ingot.
  • Example:

Forged → Resonant

  • Crafting: Place 8 Forged Runes of the same type around 1 Aetherium Ingot.
  • Example:

Resonant → Transcendent

  • Crafting: Place 8 Resonant Runes of the same type around 1 Runesteel Ingot.

Rune Remover

The Rune Remover is a single-use tool that allows you to extract a rune from an item. This is useful if you want to recover a rune for reuse, but there are a few important limitations:

  • The removal is random, you cannot choose which rune will be removed from the item.
  • The extracted rune is returned to your inventory.
  • The Rune Remover breaks after one use.
