Shine calendar is the calendar used in most of the known world. Originally implemented as an agricultural calendar system for Sevoan farmers, it became the official calendar of Sevoa under the reforms of Hermen-an.

In this system, each calendar row represents a single in-game year, which corresponds to one real-life week: the time it takes for the Moon to complete a full orbit around the planet. This lunar rhythm forms the foundation of the calendar’s structure. Two in-game years make up a season, and the seasons follow a fixed cycle based on agriculture and climate: Sprout, Harvest, Rest, Frost, with an occasional one-year season, Wane.

An octave and its seasons

For the farmers of Alathra, the seasons of the Shine Calendar shaped the rhythm of life and labor. Sprout was the season of planting, when seeds were sown and hopes for the year’s yield took root. As fields flourished, Harvest brought weeks of tireless gathering, a time when communities worked together to store food for the months ahead. After the toil of harvest, Rest offered a welcome pause: a chance to mend tools, tend to livestock, and let the land lie fallow. When the earth hardened and farming ceased, Frost arrived with bitter cold, forcing reliance on stored provisions. This was often followed by Wane, a mysterious and ominous season associated with dark omens and change, where crops had not yet enough light to grow.

The seasons together comprise an octave, a larger unit of time within the calendar. There are six octaves in total, each with its own name: Allunor, Fembril, Aurmich, Vale, Surmich, and Ruve. These octaves cycle in order, with transitions most often occurring during the Wane season.

Vincen's Day, often called Vaeday, is a unique holiday that marks the conclusion of the octave cycle. It occurs precisely at the transition from Ruve back to Allunor, symbolizing the reset of the cycle. The day is steeped in tradition and signifies renewal and reflection of the ancient war-born Sevoan culture.

The current date is marked with a yellow square. The various seasons are represented by their identifying letter and an associated color.
