General Summary

Homo Alius, more commonly known as “Other Humans”, “Alius People” or simply “Aliuses” are close relatives to humans, however they are the result of a common ancestor following a slightly different evolutionary path. Originally from a forgotten island, they migrated to the lands of Alathra after their place of origin sunk beneath the waves

In terms of appearance, they are described as being near identical to humans, but with a few key differences. They are known for having somewhat larger, broader noses, much more prominent canine teeth on both the upper and lower jaws, eyes that are more vibrant in colour, stronger jaws with a more prominent jawline and a slightly more muscular build on average compared to humans. Mature males are often all described has having some form of facial hair (even if this is only in the form of stubble), whilst females are much more likely to develop freckles on the face and body compared to their human relatives. Asides from these main differences, they are almost identical to humans, to the point the two can sometimes be confused with one another

Homo Alius are described as being on average somewhat stronger than their relatives, as their bodies have adapted to be better at physically grappling and holding down prey than humans, allowing them to maintain a higher percentage of meat in their diet. Along with this, their senses have become heightened to match, specifically their vision and sense of smell. This does however also mean that they need to eat more during each meal in order to maintain their higher metabolism, making starvation more of a likely threat to them than humans.

Some of their somewhat different adaptions compared to humans are a result of them on average including more meat into their diet, being much more capable at physically pinning down prey. This has also resulted in slightly heightened senses compared to humans, especially in terms of vision and smell. Due to their evolution having focused more on building them up physically to survive better, they have lost any potential for magic abilities. Because of this, they will often incorporate magic capable races into their society, often viewing them as high ranking members.
Homo Alius are a very social race, often building bonds with the majority of others within in their civilisations and settlements, big or small. Because of this, they’re often described as being exceedingly friendly to both their own and other races, rushing to the aid of those they know no matter the situation. This does however also result in individuals becoming much more protective of one another, meaning that wronging one individual could result in the entire settlement turning on you

Most of the time, Alius are known for living in tightly connected groups that can take the forms of tribes, often living off of the land in a hunter gather lifestyle. However, due to their race having made contact with other races, especially humans, they have begun to take on a similar lifestyle. Despite this, they’re still very closely knit with one another, with entire settlements knowing the names of each other. In terms of beliefs, they are an almost entirely atheist group. However, they do show a form of respect towards the natural world, even when studying this. They have also shown to have certain beliefs, although they aren’t considered religious

For those who have continued the original Alius lifestyle, they would often wear layers of furs and hides fashioned into clothing, some dying their clothes vibrant colours in a form of cultural appeal. Those who have became more civilised have followed an approach similar to humans, although they often do also wear their traditional Alius clothing during special events
