Mossfall is a smaller town located in a swamp in Almuren. It is not currently affiliated with any nation, but instead is part of Mirewatch.

History

The Beginning

Before the conception of Mossfall, Willow lived for around a century in the wild swamp. It wasn't until Valen Bendigo (Bendigo) settled in nearby that Mossfall began to develop. The town originated from a large willow tree, dubbed as the "Wonder Tree". In recent times, Mossfall had reached the attention of travelers, allowing the population to grow. Valen, using his natural charisma and business-talk, had also reached for alliances with nearby towns. Mossfall is one of several towns involved in Mirewatch, a swamp-based union with (as of July 27, 2025) 3 different towns involved.

The Battle for Mossfall

In Vale 28, 30 3E, orc envoys entered the swamp, demanding all current residents to give up their bog lands and return them to the orcs. Their reasoning was that before people lived here, they had the land to themselves. Thus, they figured, surely they deserved to have it back?

Obviously the people of the bog lands did not agree. However, this was not a unanimous sentiment among all of Alathra. Both through in-game chat messages and on the Alathra discord, some players expressed their lack of desire to help protect the swamp. This could be for a variety of reasons.

  1. Prejudice against "the rats," or Scavenger's Mire.
  2. They didn't want to bother with protecting somebody else's land.
  3. They thought if they gave the orcs the swamp, the orcs wouldn't bother anybody else.
  4. They wanted to destroy the orcs in a way that would also happen to destroy the swamp.

And so on.

For more information, see Battle for Mossfall.

The Tree of Wonder

Both the birthplace of Willow and centerpiece of Mossfall, the Tree of Wonder stands as a symbol of Mossfalli culture and as a great decoration (biased). It is here where the town branched off of and became what it is today.

Government Hierarchy

Currently, Mossfall's government is very limited in power because of its size. Because of this, only future Ríhluadh or Ceathair will have to be elected. For example, the founder of Mossfall was immediately chosen as Ríhluadh, and they handpicked the two current Ceathair. In Mossfall, there are three layers to the government.

Ríhluadh (rih-low-d)

The Ríhluadh is the figurehead of Mossfall. They are similar in power to a president in a democracy, or a mayor. They have the most power as an individual, yet can be overruled by elected representatives or Ceathair.

Ceathair (see-ah-th-air)

Ceathair are elected representatives that form the Ceathair Council. The Ceathair Council's members are the "decision makers" of the town. As the town grows in size, more Ceathair will be elected. If a Ceathair has been in power for their term, a new election will take place to replace them.

Gnáth (guh-na-th)

The Gnáth are the regular citizens of Mossfall. Gnáth, unless specifically excluded, are encouraged to vote in elections for future Ceathair and Ríhluadh.

Races

The primary races that usually reside in Mossfall are, in order from most common to least common,

  • Goblins
  • Gnomes
  • Myceloids
  • Wood Elves
  • Parasitians

There are, of course, exceptions to this list. Other races have and do inhabit Mossfall, however they are the exception and not the rule.
