Stillwind is a weather phenomenon of unknown origin known to cause sudden drops of temperature and humidity, without enough of a pressure differential to cause windflow. The nature of such changes, such as their intensity, prevalence and localization is largely unpredictable, the only consistency being their increasing rate of appearance in higher latitudes. Rainfall in areas with stillwinds causes the formation of unstable snow layers referred to as quicksnow.

Stillwind poses a considerable danger to maritime travel. It is most common for sails to freeze and tear, leaving the affected ships trailing at sea. By estimation of Dottish dockyards, the successful development of a stillwind-proof sail material would double the Dotlands economical output overnight.
