The Scalebornes are towering beings, standing 3 to 4 meters tall, with long, powerful limbs and broad, imposing builds. Their skin appears mostly human at a glance—smooth and pale or earth-toned—but beneath the surface lies a subtle pattern of scale-like textures, faintly visible under light or close inspection. These scales shimmer slightly, giving their skin an almost otherworldly depth. Their faces are elongated and sharp, with high cheekbones, slit-like nostrils, and angular jaws. Their eyes are large and deep purple, glowing faintly in darkness, with narrow pupils and a piercing, serpentine gaze. A mane of thick, white hair grows from their heads, often worn loose or intricately braided. Clawed fingers, slight ridges along the arms and spine.
Abilities :
Fire Magic Affinity : Scalebornes have a natural connection to fire magic. They can conjure and control flames with skill, using heat-based spells for offense and defense.
Resistant to Fire : Their bodies tolerate high temperatures and burns far better than most species. Normal flames and moderate magical fire cause little harm, but intense or sustained fire—especially from powerful magic—can still injure or scar them.
Regenerative Traits : Like reptiles, they can regenerate damaged limbs over time. Warm environments or exposure to heat accelerate their healing process.
weaknesses :
Cold-Blooded Physiology : As cold-blooded beings, they are highly sensitive to cold. Low temperatures slow their reflexes, dull their senses, and weaken both physical and magical performance.
Vulnerable to Water and Ice Magic : Poor affinity with water-based magic and highly susceptible to it. Ice spells, cold rain, or even mundane snowballs can cause physical and magical disruption.
Poor Plant Digestion: Their bodies can't process vegetables or plant matter well. A plant-heavy diet leads to nausea, lethargy, and malnutrition—they thrive on meat-based nutrition.
Biology :
Scalebornes are cold-blooded and strictly carnivorous, thriving on raw or lightly seared meat to fuel their high-energy physiology. Though reptilian in origin, they give live birth—a rare trait among such species—and can interbreed with humans, with Scaleborne traits typically dominating in appearance and physiology.
A key aspect of their biology is a specialized core-heat organ, which absorbs and stores ambient warmth to regulate their body temperature. This allows them to function effectively in most climates, though they are less active and more vulnerable in prolonged cold. Their dense bones support their towering frames, and their faintly glowing blood—infused with bioluminescent proteins and rare minerals—gives them an unmistakably otherworldly presence.
Behavior :
Despite their towering presence, Scalebornes are calm, well-spoken, and value clarity, patience, and meaningful conversation. They are emotionally reserved, often slow to trust, but once a bond is formed—through shared struggle, bravery, or time—it is lifelong and unwavering. Loyalty defines their character, and betrayal, though rare, is never forgotten. Their society is deeply communal, with strong ties to kin, clan, and comrades, upheld through shared rituals and solemn oaths. In matters of love, Scaleborne are fiercely monogamous and devoted; romantic loyalty is sacred, and they do not remarry after loss, holding love as an eternal bond.
history :
Scalebornes originated from the Midlands of Erylos, where their race once rose to prominence through strength, discipline, and mastery of war. Known for their imposing presence and martial prowess, they spread across the continent in an age marked by conflict and conquest. But after long years of war and growing resistance, their dominance fractured. Weakened and outnumbered, they withdrew into the frozen reaches of the north—harsh, unforgiving lands where few would follow. There, they remained hidden for generations, enduring in isolation as the world moved on. Today, the Scalebornes are scattered across the lands, no longer united by conquest but shaped by endurance. Many now walk their own paths, driven by purpose, survival, or a quiet search for meaning in a world that has long forgotten their former power.
