Fishing has been reworked to be a more challenging, yet also more rewarding profession. In addition to plenty of new, biome-specific fish and a selection of different rods, players can also increase their chances of catching rarer, more valuable fish with baits and build totems for specific bonuses.
After a player has cast a line into water that's at least 2 blocks deep, they must wait as usual for something to hook. After the bobber dips below the surface, the player has a few seconds to reel in their catch, opening the minigame window.
The player is first asked to press Left Click
to start the minigame. After the click, a game time counter appears with a certain amount of seconds to complete the catch. The player must continously left click to keep their crosshair in the green area of their catch bar. Doing so starts filling their catch progress, which must be fully completed before the game time runs out.
The game time and the moving speed of the green area of the catch bar are both dependent on the rarity of the fish. There are 6 different rarities:

Catching high-rarity fish requires an upgraded fishing rod. Starting from Copper, which can hook up to Rare fish rarities, each metal upgrade allows to catch increasingly rarer fish up to Alathran rarity, which requires a Diamond Fishing Rod. Upgraded rods also reduce the wait time required for fish to hook.
Baits are items that only apply a bonus to a single catch attempt at a time. To use a bait, one must hold it in their off-hand while they cast their line. If the catch fails or the line is pulled out prematurely, the bait still gets consumed. Baits can be sometimes be obtained by specific activites, like tilling ground (Fresh Grub), but mostly through trade with the Fishing Trader at the Trading Hall.

Players can build totems of specific shapes to grant them bonuses. Each totem grants a singular bonus for a few minute period while activated. Activation requires using a specific item on a totem's heart. An activated totem grants a bonus in a circular area with a radius of 15 blocks. Once activated, a totem can't be reactivated again until it runs out, but a totem can be prematurely deactivated by breaking its heart.
