Elves are a tall, proud, and often authoritative race. They’re notable for being the longest-living and most magically adept race. Like humans, they’re found on the surface and are most at home in dense, temperate forests. Elves are skilled architects, but are typically prone to sacrificing function for form and beauty.

Due to their significantly higher than average lifespan, many elves view themselves as the rightful “leaders” of the world, seeing other races as in need of guidance, often against their own desires. Though this authority is often not realised, as their longer lifespans typically lead to elves being more apathetic towards societal development. It’s common to see elvish construction projects take several times longer than those of humans or dwarves.

Wood Elves

Average lifespan: 400 years Maturity age: 80 years Height range: 1.67 - 2.10 meters Wood Elves are a shorter, typically darker-skinned designation of elves. They’re typically more aligned with human physiology than their Elf counterparts. They much prefer living in and amongst forested areas than constructing grand cities like other elves. Due to this, their histories are often less well documented than other designations of elves. Since their discovery by human societies, there’s been some debate as to whether or not the “wood” in “Wood Elves” refers to their complexion or their forested habitat.

Average lifespan: 250 years Maturity age: 40 years Height range: 1.5 - 2 meters Veyari are rare, shapeshifting offspring of elves, marked at birth by their unusual eyes and the faint scent of wildflowers. Gifted with the innate ability to gradually alter their appearance, including sex, voice, and racial features they are naturally empathetic and easily adapt to any society they enter. Though they live far shorter lives than other elves averaging 250 years, their fluid identities and emotional intuition often make them valued, if misunderstood, members of other cultures. Veyari are born either roughly 1 in every 150 elf births. When two Veyari reproduce, the child is always Veyari. However, due to their scattered and secretive nature, this is exceedingly rare.

Average lifespan: 400 years Maturity age: 80 years Height range: 1.5 - 1.9 meters Dryad are nature bound beings known for their ethereal beauty, golden laurels, and skin like speckled mushroom. Dwelling in arboreal villages and lush cave systems, they are deeply connected to flora and fauna, nurturing life through potent herbalism and strong empathy. With shimmering gold accents and the rare ability to shift the appearance of their eyes and hair to mirror flora and gemstones. They are skilled healers, empathetic peacekeepers, and devoted stewards of the natural world but their compassion leaves them vulnerable to manipulation. Dryads thrive in harmony, but suffer greatly when forced into violence or betrayal.

Average lifespan: 400 years Maturity age: 80 years Height range: 1.75 - 2.20 meters Ash Elves are hardened by generations dwelling in Alathra’s volcanic archipelagos, they are tall, statuesque, and soot-skinned, with glowing eyes. Known for their strong fire resilience, strong connection to solar and flame magic, and adherence to tradition, Ash Elves are builders of knowledge and keepers of memory. Their disciplined, ritualistic society values ancestral continuity, written legacy, and sacred oaths above all. Though often seen as austere or secretive, the Ash Elves are deeply intellectual and spiritually grounded, thriving in ash and flame—but vulnerable outside their volcanic sanctuaries.

Average lifespan: 400 years Maturity age: 90 years Height range: 1.6 - 2.1 meters The Faenari are elemental and elusive, deeply attuned to one of the four natural elements; earth, air, fire, or water. Though similar in form to elves, their bodies reflect their elemental heritage, from bark-like skin or glacial eyes to ember-glow hair and storm-cut wings. Bound by ancient tradition and elemental worship, each clan is shaped by its environment, their magic potent but narrow, able to wield only their native element, and even then at a cost to mind and spirit. Clever, unpredictable, and have a strong resistance to their chosen element, Faenari are both revered and distrusted across the world.
