Alice de Leverette, Queen of the Leporids (born Year 8, Third Era) is the current reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Leporidia, a constituent nation within the Dawnspire Commonwealth. Additionally, she is the current head of the House of Leverette.
Alice was born at Leverette Chateau during the reign of her mother, Queen Marianne II, and ascended to the throne immediately upon her death in 28, Third Era. She is the youngest reigning monarch in Leporidia's history, having been coronated at the age of 21. Her young age at coronation has led to her being given the nickname "Alice the Young" within her court.
Within the final years of her mother's reign, and the first year of her rulership, she made herself known as an architect, writer, and patron of the arts.
Appearance and personality
Alice is a rabbitfolk woman with wavy blonde hair and green eyes. Her hair is typically let down in natural curls, or curled into fine ringlets at more formal occasions. She wears a frilly blue noble gown during her day-to-day life, preferring to only wear her monarchical robes at special events or foreign trips. In her outdoor day-to-day life, she can also be seen wearing brown boots. She is also known to wear large, wire-framed circular glasses. Her ears and tail are covered in soft white fur, reminiscent of breeds of common domestic rabbits.
At the time of her coronation, Alice was measured to be 5ft and 7 inches tall.
She is known, or at least believed within her circle of friends, to be a woman of grand ideas. She’s been described by her contemporaries as "someone who will stop at nothing to achieve her grand designs, and talented at talking her countrymen into supporting her vision." Equally so, Alice has a habit of getting carried away in her ideas, her passion and diligence often turning into stubbornness and a desire for absolute control over her visions. Many of her detractors believe that her passion and steadfast belief in her ways will drag her down, and take Leporidia with her.
Early life and family
Alice was born in the spring of the 8th year of the Third Era at Leverette Chateau as Pricess Alice Roseline. Her parents had two more children following her. Following Leporid tradition, she was given the title "of Harebourg" at birth, as is customary of the heir to the Leporid throne.
Familial relations
Alice has been described by historians as having had a distant relationship with her mother, due to her staunch dedication to national affairs. As such, much of her childhood was spent with her father, and more often her maids. As the young princess grew older and her personality grew stronger, her maids were willing to cultivate her personality in whatever course it was to head. This was to the dismay of her mother, who always saught that Alice be shaped and educated to follow directly in her footsteps.
As Alice reached her pre-teen years, she was frequently chaperoned by her maids in loose trips to the wider capital of Harebourg Haven, as well as the forest to the north of the Chateau. Through the additional care of a maid she was close to, she was given free reign to explore the bustling merchant capital, to play amongst the children of the woods outside the chateau, and most importantly, learned to appreciate the arts.
Political development
The capital brought masterful poetry, paintings and theatre to Leporidia from all corners of the world. Most importantly to the young Princess, it also brought the burgeoning worlds of magic and the sciences, creating wondrous art out of even the most basic and common of resources.
As a teenager and young adult, developed a secret collection of curiosities, allowing her to produce her own amateur works, and dabble in the basics of magic and the sciences. Her curiosities and adventures in the capital set the stage for the kind of Queen she sought to be, an enlightened monarch, a patron of the arts, and a patron of those who brought prosperity to her kingdom. The capital had also shaped her political thinking, being shown first-hand the wonders of free trade, class mobility, and the freedoms of expression and love. Though, she was adamant to keep these thoughts a secret during her time as heir, lest her more conservative mother turn her preference towards one of her siblings for succession.
Reign
Alice ascended to the Leporid throne on her mother's death in the winter of the 28th year of the Third Era. She was the youngest person to succeed the Leporid throne at the age of 21.
Alice gave her first speech the day following the death of her mother, where her mother's cabinet publicly proclaimed her as queen. Her first speech, announcing her true ideals to the world, came as a shock to the cabinet. Yet, it successfully increased her approval amongst the populace of Leporidia, and especially within the capital of Harebourg.
Personal Interests
Shortly before the death of her mother, rumours began to circulate from the royal court that Alice was in fact a skilled writer, and had been releasing her writings and works in secret under a pseudonym "Maia d'Enrique." Shortly after her coronation, she was quick to reveal the pseudonym as her own, leading to many of her works being republished under her name.
