Harebourg Haven, known colloquially as Harebourg, is a the capital city of Leporidia, a constituent kingdom within the Dawnspire Commonwealth. The city is located on the southern coast of Leporidia, bound in the south by the Bay of Harebourg. With a population of 17, the town is the largest city in Leporidia, and the second largest city in the wider Dawnspire Commonwealth.
The city has served as the main centre of power for the House of Leverette, the ruling house of Leporidia, since ancient times. Though, with Leporidia's unification with the lands of Bridgetown into the Dawnspire Commonwealth, the city's external trade focus was neglected in favour of overland and internal trade with the other cities of the Commonwealth, leading to the city's decline.
Rejuvination of the city has since become a key focal point of the current reigning monarch, Queen Alice.
Etymology
The name Harebourg Haven is a combination of multiple exonyms, owing to its mercentile history. When the first foreign peoples to interact with the Leporids of the city began trading, they began referring to the city as simply "The Harbour", known in their languages as Herebeorg. This name was misunderstood by the Leporids as Harebourg, meaning "Rabbit Market Town".
As trade and foreign contact increased throughout the centuries, and shipping became longer distance, the city became a refuge and stopping point for sailors as well as a trade port. Initially, the name Harebourg Haven referred specifically to the city's docklands, where foreign sailors on their travels would typically remain, but as the city became more and more known, the name became synonymous with the town.
In a sense, it can be argued that Harebourg Haven, in a roundabout way, translates to "Harbour Harbour".
Geography
Situated on the southern coast of the continent of Almuren, Harebourg Haven is the continent's most southerly city. Direct access to the warmer central oceans gives the city a warm, oceanic climate, not uncommon for cities in the region.
The city streches across the Leporid Peninsula. The western portions of the city faces the gentle Bay of Harebourg. In the south and the east, the city meets the much more turbulent and tidal middle seas. The city centre runs mainly across the low-lying areas of the peninsula, mainly along the coastline.
